tuneage:

LoveLikeFire - “William

This San Francisco four-piece is definitely worth checking out. Their fuzzy, alt-pop songs compliment singer Ann Yu’s ethereal voice, which soars within this song while the band gradually builds behind her. If you’re from the San Francisco area, I think you’d really enjoy watching this video…there are some cool animated shots of the city.

They’ve recently released their digital EP William this past March via UK label Heist or Hit Records, which is available on iTunes. The band is set to release their first full length album, Tear Ourselves Away in the UK this August.

Blue Sky Black Death - Honestly

Blue Sky Black Death first caught my ear when I heard “They Came Around” off their first album, A Heap of Broken Images, on the Telepopmusik station via Pandora. Well, apparently this instrumental, electronic-based hip hop duo have expanded their repertoire, releasing an album called Slow Burning Lights in November 2008 which dives into a dark, indie, dream pop world by utilizing vocalist Yes Alexander of The Casual Lust, a band who I discovered on thesixtyone. Funny how the two worlds collide. Anyway, you can also catch an unreleased BSBD track called “Heart Attack” on Yes Alexander’s myspace.

By the way, BSBD’s previous instrumental album, Late Night Cinema, is a must listen. If you don’t mind interrupting song introductions and fade-in fade-out album reminders, check it out on imeem.

Camera Obscura - The Sweetest Thing

Camera Obscura’s latest album, My Maudlin Career, is simply just that.

from Merriam-Webster:

maud·lin:
2. weakly and effusively sentimental

Overall, I like the album.

My Brightest Diamond - Inside a Boy (Son Lux Remix)

Note: This song may take a little while to load.

Back in 2008 Son Lux, aka Ryan Lott, was picked as NPR’s greatest unknown artist of the the year with his album, At War with Walls and Mazes. I haven’t listened to it, but I did manage to listen to his 4-track collection of My Brightest Diamond remixes titled Shark Remixes Vol. 2 that I recommend. Visit Asthmatic Kitty Records to read how it came together.

Also, if you haven’t checked out the mini-documentary of My Brightest Diamond from Dig For Fire, do check it out. She has the coolest style.

High Places - From Stardust to Sentience

I was glued to this song for awhile, and just never posted it. A very atmospheric and magical piece.

Mirah - Generosity

At the end of February, (A)spera was listed as one of NPR’s top 10 albums of 2009 so far, which by now has probably slipped off. However, it still deserves honorable mention. Check out the album on pitchfork via lala. It’s a good album if you’re fairly new to Mirah like me and like experimental folky tracks.

Phoenix - 1901 (sayCet remix)

I randomly decided to look up sayCet on hypem after discovering him through Fairtilizer a couple weeks ago and ended up finding some very nice recent mixes.

From myspace:

Saycet is the project of Pierre Lefeuvre, a french music composer hailing from Paris…Saycet’s first full-length has managed to capture the frailties of a lifetime. Both fleecy and tensed, elusive and introspective, the songs that compose One Day At Home sublimate melancholy and solitude. Saycet’s music is an invitation to daydreaming and would perfectly lend itself to the soundtrack of a contemplative walk.

Now joined by vocalist Phoene Somsavath who brought her delicate signature, Saycet embraces vivid arrangements and crafts a brand of experimental pop. With discrete vocal samples that breeze in and vanish, waltzing melodies, layered keyboards and detailed electronics, Saycet takes the listener on a timeless journey. The one-year-long collaboration has given birth to a second album to be released the forthcoming year.

Also, I really like the Panda Bear mix of “I’m Not”, which you can currently listen to and download on the music player to the right. Also, be sure to check out his original works too.

I posted the Phoenix track because I like their latest album. It’s short, but good.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Little Shadow (Acoustic)

Most of the time, I try to avoid big name players, but I do like sharing less hyped tracks. Some acoustic versions can be found on the band’s digi-pack album of It’s Blitz.

I’m also liking this song and a bunch of others from the album.

Metric - Blindness

Honestly…I don’t care much for Metric’s latest album. Maybe I should duck now before eggs get thrown at me. Anyhow, had it not been for my brother who’s probably more audibly forgiving than I am, I wouldn’t have relistened to the track above, which I do like, along with a few other notable tracks. Oh, and apparently Emily Haines has a thing for blindness.

Dan Auerbach - When the Night Comes

This is more folky than my usual posts, but I’ve been enjoying this track the last couple weeks. Can’t say the rest of his songs are like this, but this alone is enjoyable every time I hear it.

Speaking of Dan Auerbach, who is one half of The Black Keys, I recently watched a marathon of whatever episodes I can catch of Lie to Me on hulu.com, and heard their song “Lies” at the very end of the third episode. Just a perfect song to wrap up the intro episode for me since I missed the first two.  Anyway, I highly recommend the show. I particulary like how they zone into a specific facial expression or gesture, then show captions of public figures doing the same thing.
