Arms and Sleepers - The Architekt via FencePost: Ethereal,...

Ethereal, shrouded in a mysterious darkness, “The Architekt” by Arms And Sleepers enters a world fit for the Tim Burtons and Michel Gondrys of the world. There’s a special abstract reality to the song that truly defies description. Like a dream, there’s a lot going on and much of it is hazy, just out of your limited vision which in itself jumps from one point in time to another without hesitation. There’s electronic elements that border both folk and trip hop. The vocals are split between the two cast members, Ben Shepard and Catherine Worsham of Uzi and Ari, while the music is provided by the Arms And Sleepers duo Mizra Ramic and Max Lewis. It’s moody but not depressing, hypnotic but borderline anxious, dreamy but with a clear direction forward.

“The Architekt” is off Arms And Sleepers latest LP Matador, out now on Fake Chapter Records.

Line-up: Friendly Fires | The xx | Holly Miranda
Venue: The Independent in San Francisco, CA

Although Friendly Fires was the main act (which I didn’t really get into), I’m extremely glad they had a fantastic line up for their openers, which often ends up being the reason I go to most shows it seems.

First up: Holly Miranda
I didn’t know she was performing until a few days ago when my brother reminded me of the concert he bought tickets for back in September. My thought was…cool, the girl from The Jealous Girlfriends…since I used to only listen to tracks with the female vocals anyway. So yes, it was a delight to hear her live. It’s really amazing how her vocals could both be so vulnerable and powerful at the same time. Furthermore, the stirring and emotive sound created just between two people was quite impressive.

Next up: The xx
In spite of losing a member and now only being a trio of 20 yr olds, their sound stood strong and their pulsating dub/trip-hop-like beats definitely got the crowd going. I have to say, this is easily one of my favorite concert sets I’ve seen. I love it when I’m familiar with all the songs. My only complaint is that I wish they could’ve played more since they left out “Heart Skipped a Beat”. At the end, they walked off the stage with their remix of Florence and the Machine’s “You’ve Got the Love” playing in the background which seriously sounded awesome in the venue. Loved the bass.

p.s. The Independent plays really cool tracks before and in between sets and it’s a cool intimate venue (like The Echo in LA but twice as big)

Well, I guess whoever still actually follows this tumblr can benefit from my procrastination on schoolwork.

An any rate, the summary is… Mr Little Jeans is a London-based Norwegian girl who recorded in LA. Sorry, but that’s all I’ve got. As described by RCRD LBL, this track is “Lykke Li-ish” and I’m always in for some percussive elements. So far, I’m apparently the only one who’s hearted this song on Hypem, where I found an interesting cover of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” below that’s been out since February, which I also recommend checking out. (btw, i really hated this song until now)
