Blue Sky Black Death first caught my ear when I heard “They Came Around” off their first album, A Heap of Broken Images, on the Telepopmusik station via Pandora. Well, apparently this instrumental, electronic-based hip hop duo have expanded their repertoire, releasing an album called Slow Burning Lights in November 2008 which dives into a dark, indie, dream pop world by utilizing vocalist Yes Alexander of The Casual Lust, a band who I discovered on thesixtyone. Funny how the two worlds collide. Anyway, you can also catch an unreleased BSBD track called “Heart Attack” on Yes Alexander’s myspace.
By the way, BSBD’s previous instrumental album, Late Night Cinema, is a must listen. If you don’t mind interrupting song introductions and fade-in fade-out album reminders, check it out on imeem.
I randomly decided to look up sayCet on hypem after discovering him through Fairtilizer a couple weeks ago and ended up finding some very nice recent mixes.
Saycet is the project of Pierre Lefeuvre, a french music composer hailing from Paris…Saycet’s first full-length has managed to capture the frailties of a lifetime. Both fleecy and tensed, elusive and introspective, the songs that compose One Day At Home sublimate melancholy and solitude. Saycet’s music is an invitation to daydreaming and would perfectly lend itself to the soundtrack of a contemplative walk.
Now joined by vocalist Phoene Somsavath who brought her delicate signature, Saycet embraces vivid arrangements and crafts a brand of experimental pop. With discrete vocal samples that breeze in and vanish, waltzing melodies, layered keyboards and detailed electronics, Saycet takes the listener on a timeless journey. The one-year-long collaboration has given birth to a second album to be released the forthcoming year.
Also, I really like the Panda Bear mix of “I’m Not”, which you can currently listen to and download on the music player to the right. Also, be sure to check out his original works too.
I posted the Phoenix track because I like their latest album. It’s short, but good.
We last visited Zee Avi with her song, “No Christmas for Me”, off Brushfire Records’ holiday album. Now, thanks to KCRW’s SXSW page, we catch the latest track off her upcoming May release.
You can also check out her rendition of Interpol’s “Slow Hands” on her myspace.
Seriously, this opening track off Telefon Tel Aviv’s third album, Immolate Yourself, is a must have for those who listen to M83. I admit, I kind of ignored the hype around them, but it’s my loss and I’m making up for it now. I’ll have to check out their other stuff. Too bad this duo is no more since one half passed away shortly before the album release.
Prior till now, the only Gui Boratto track I was familiar with was “A Beautiful Life” which I think I found on a mixed disc my brother put together a while back. If you like soaring, soothing, shimmering synths with a beat, then I guess this is the way to go.
Anyway, because of hearing “Besides” on KCRW recently, I decided to delve a little more.
Gui Boratto - Besides
Then I came out really liking this catchy track below.
Gui Boratto - Azzurra
You can preview his sophomore album, Take My Breath Away, at kompakt.fm. Just be aware that each track fades in and out every minute or so.
“When I Grow Up” is the upcoming single from Fever Ray and it’s transformed by Dan Lissvik (of Studio) from a dark and eerie track into a slice of light balearicpop complete with panflutes and children’s voices in the background. (via discobelle)
Off this duo’s latest album, The Camel’s Back. Psapp is most notably known for their musical style termed as toytronica (see performance on kcrw), in addition to their song, “Cosy in the Rocket”, used as the opening theme to Grey’s Anatomy.
You can obtain a free download of their title track here.
Technically, this should be a reblog from dalryaug since I completely forgot about the song after seeing the slightly disturbing cartoon video of “The Monster Song” months ago. Anyhow, decided to purchase my favorite off the album to share with you fine folks. Enjoy!
my recs: the camel’s back fickle ghost the monster song somewhere there is a record of our actions marshrat screws
Apparently, I have chosen the uncivilized version because I like the more chill and mellow stuff. Though, I do wish they slowed the vocals down a bit towards the end. Both dressed and undressed tracks can be freely downloaded here.
This is such fantastic compiliation with great artists. Furthermore, it benefits the Red Hot Organization, which is a charity that raises HIV and AIDS awareness. Considering I like indie music and I work with HIV patients, it’s a perfect fit!
One new track will be streamable each day on myspace.
[edit: after previewing the majority of the tracks a month later, it’s extremely folky with some exceptions. maybe it’s just me, but it’s missing some oomph. it’s sort of like a rehash of older popular acts. would’ve loved some synths or something, and maybe even the use of more current breakthrough acts]
Found this on audiodrums some weeks ago. I think the handclaps and the syncopated rhythm drew me in. Btw, I really dig the mod looking album cover from their forthcoming album, Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future, due in January.
